Matt Herzfeld is a New York-based entertainment executive with extensive experience and knowledge in music catalog transaction space. After leaving a role sourcing catalog sales and placing creative opportunities across the contemporary and catalog worlds for artists and writers at Primary Wave, Matt founded Seasons Music Group in 2022 to provide an antidote to what had become to the messy and speculative world of catalog brokers by provided data and tech-led services across catalog opportunities of all sizes, right and royalty types, ages, genres, and territories of IP and royalty transactions driven by honesty, straightforward advice, creative structuring, and pragmatism in analyzing, preparing, presenting, and negotiating deals from inception to close.
As a former talent manager, Matt has signed or repped artists on publishers and labels like Columbia, Sony, Kobalt, UMPG, Virgin and beyond and initiated creative campaigns in the catalog and contemporary music spheres with A list talent and billboard-charting results. Matt has since become one of the leading voices in the music catalog world and a go-to broker for catalog deals and company sales of all types. His company Seasons Music Group is a trusted resource in the catalog deal advisory business working with well over 200 buyers, publishers, labels, distributors, funds, and individuals with whom he's faciliated over $200 million of catalog deals for some of the most successful artists, songwriters, and producers of all time.
Matt's been fortunate to help facilitate over $250M in transactions, which has given me great perspective on structuring deals across almost every type of asset, genre, territory, and vintage. A couple notable ones are deals for the Bing Crosby estate, Dan Wilson (Semisonic, Adele, Dixie Chicks), Emeli Sandé, Florida Georgia Line (Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelly), Future Cut (Lily Allen), John Ryan (Shawn Mendes, One Direction, Pitbull), Craig Leon (Ramones, film score for ‘1917’), the Sturken & Rogers (Rihanna) catalog, and dozens of deals of all sizes by major artists, writers, producers, mixers, composers, and company owners across pop, hip-hop, classical, alternative, Latin, film/tv, country, and beyond.
Prior to Primary Wave, Matt worked in roles with labels at Arista and Island Records. He also worked on the cusp of the American and French music industries as a Project Manager for French Embassy’s Music Export Office in New York. Matt graduated from McGill University in Montreal, studying Jazz Guitar Performance and English Literature + Cultural Studies.
A born and raised New Yorker fluent in English and French, Matt splits his time between Brooklyn and Fire Island in New York. He spends a significant amount of time working in and sourcing opportunities with the music communities in Nashville, Miami, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Latin America, Asia, London and beyond.

Half Japanese and half American, Mackinley grew up between Japan and China, completed high school in Tokyo, and later earned his undergraduate degree from NYU. He entered NYU as a jazz-performance saxophone major before transitioning to Music Business, with a specialty in data analytics
Prior to joining Seasons, he gained experience at Luminate Data, Amazon, and independent label Foundations Music, developing a perspective that combines music-industry knowledge, artist development, and data-driven analysis.
